Salute to Israel Parade 2008!

The Salute to Israel Parade is the largest and most exciting Jewish community parade in the world. In this 60th Anniversary year, 100,000 participants will step off on Fifth Avenue, cheered on by an expected one million spectators. Millions more will watch the parade on television. This year, the event celebrates sixty years of Israel’s independence and brings together groups from many segments of the American-Jewish community in an affirmation of American-Jewish loyalty to Israel.

Visitors to the Parade will see…

A human ribbon of color and movement by international dance troupes in an array of beautiful costumes performing their national dance.

Participants will include:
  • Russian Ballet, Bukharin and Georgian dancers in costumes, Israeli folk dancers, and ballroom dancers
  • Strolling violins and Klezmer bands
  • Street performers, clowns, jugglers, and face painters
  • Celebrities, dignitaries, and politicians
  • Horse-drawn carriages, antique cars and super-luxury limousines
  • The largest hora in the world since 1948
  • Sixty shofar blowers opening the parade
  • Sixty motorcycle riders bearing flags of Israel to close the parade
  • Twenty marching bands
  • Beautifully decorated floats
  • Banners and flags blanketing Fifth Avenue
  • The Empire State Building lit in blue and white during the entire weekend of the parade
